Is killing an animal the same as killing a human?

well, let's look at the similarities and differences in animals and humans:

SIMILARITIES:
1. Humans have emotions/feelings. So do animals.
2. Humans have a central nervous system and are capable of feeling pain and pleasure. So do animals.
3. Human beings have a form of communication with each other, and with some creatures of other species (example dogs). So do animals.
4. Humans eat, breathe, sleep, have blood, flesh and organs. So do animals.

DIFFERENCES:
1. Humans look different from animals. Then again, we all look different from each other. No 2 humans are the same.
2. Animals do not speak the same language as humans (except parrots lol) and may be considered of lesser intelligence. Indeed an animal (generally speaking) does not have a brain as complex and intelligent as a human being's. However, there are some human beings of "lesser intelligence" and I'll bet there are some animals out there who are smarter than some humans.
3. Animals perform many of the same bodily functions as humans, but may do these in a different "manner." (Example: May mate or excrete bodily waste differently.)

CONCLUSION: Whether you are killing a human being or an animal, you are still killing one of god's creatures (I believe in god, I realize some don't.) You are comitting the same act either way, no matter which living species you are snuffing the life out of. That's my opinion and I am sticking with it . . . please feel free to comment otherwise, I am quite open minded.

I think killing a human is different just because humans are much smarter.

Just as the post above yours mentioned it is not about who is smarter than who. There are people who are mentally retarded...so would that mean it would be okay to tourture them, slaughter them and sell them because they are not as smart as other humans? Of course not! It is the same, the only difference is that not all people have compassion for animals and just don't care or they aren't smart enough to understand. Animals feel pain and have emotions just like humans, therefore they should not be abused and slaughtered!

I don't know if you read about the hunting dog that was hanged from a tree. It was very close to where i live. Our local human society had a picture of the dog hanging in the tree. I am so enraged by this, I will have this image in my head forever. I can't understand how someone could abuse an animal like this.

Sprightcat, that is an awful image, I can't believe someone would be so cruel.
As far as the question goes, I feel like the fact that we have a life, the right to live it is ours. That goes for animals too. Because they are alive they should be able to live, just like I should. No one has the right to take my life, no one has the right to take theirs.

well until my eyes were opened recently i diddn't think it was that cruel but now that i have the facts i think that it is....I think it is cruel to kill a human or an animal...but at the same time..humans are smarter and i think because of that, have deeper relationships and it can hurt a lot when a loved one dies and i'm sure animals get sad as well but not as sad...just my opinion!
