As a vegan or as a person who cooks for any vegans, you may want to purchase a vegan cookbook. A vegan cookbook is simply a cookbook in which all the recipes are vegan.
Having a vegan cookbook has many benefits. For one, you will always have convenient access to meal ideas, whether cooking for yourself or for guests. Additionally, a using a vegan cookbook helps you eat healthier, because you can cook for yourself rather than buy unhealthy processed foods. For the same reason, you will save money by not having to buy foods pre-made.
Getting a vegan cookbook has almost no drawbacks. Cookbook authors usually do a good job writing recipes that most people enjoy. They avoid recipes that only appeal to few people. Worst-case scenario, you just end up not using it much. You can usually buy vegan cookbooks for anywhere between $10 and $30 each, but occasionally you may find one for a little less or a little more.
When selecting a vegan cookbook, try to read as many reviews as possible. Taste varies between people, so you cannot know whether or not you will like the dishes in a certain cookbook just because one other person happens to like them. Amazon allows you to see customer reviews of their books, even if you do not purchase from Amazon.
You can find a countless selection of vegan cookbooks, so try to find that meets your individual needs. Generally, most vegans want a vegan cookbook that provides healthy, easy-to-prepare dishes that most people (both vegans and non-vegans) will enjoy. Additionally, nobody wants to have to run to a speciality store all the time, so find a cookbook that utilizes common ingredients as much as possible.
The Student's Go Vegan Cookbook offers over 135 quick, easy, cheap, and tasty vegan recipes. Another vegan cookbook, called The Complete Vegan Cookbook
has over 200 tantalizing recipes, plus plenty of kitchen wisdom for beginners and experienced cooks.
I personally use Vegan Planet: 400 Irresistible Recipes with Fantastic Flavors from Home and Around the World. My sister gave it to me as a gift, and I have made many recipes out of it. I enjoyed every one I made so far, and I received no complaints from any dinner guests. I especially enjoyed the recipes for vegan french toast, because they tasted just like regular french toast.
I hope this article answered all of your questions about vegan cookbooks. If you have any remaining questions, or if you have comments or suggestions, please post them in the Vegan Forums.
